  • What are the recommended vaccinations to go to the Virgin Islands?

No vaccinations are required for a trip to the Virgin Islands. However, we recommend certain vaccines such as: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, hepatitis A and B, whooping cough.

As for other Caribbean countries, we advise you to pay attention to different things like

    The Zika Virus

Due to the presence of the Zika virus transmitted by tiger mosquito bites, it is recommended that pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant postpone their stay, or protect themselves from mosquito bites. Symptoms include fever, headache, joint pain and rash.

    Dengue fever

The main concern in terms of health is the resurgence of dengue fever throughout the Caribbean region. This disease transmitted by mosquitoes presents initial symptoms similar to those of a severe flu (fever exceeding 40°C), before degenerating: nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and even skin rashes... There is a potentially fatal hemorrhagic form - but fortunately rare.

    Chikungunya

This mosquito-borne viral disease first appeared in the Caribbean in 2014. The symptoms are similar to those of the flu with the addition of joint pain that can be severe. As with dengue and Zika, there is no vaccine or effective treatment. It is therefore necessary to protect oneself as much as possible from mosquitoes. Severe forms of the disease are fortunately extremely rare. In case of persistent symptoms, consult a doctor.

    Protect yourself against mosquito bites

There is no vaccine or treatment for these diseases; only the symptoms are treated. Therefore, it is important to protect yourself as much as possible from bites.

Wear long, loose-fitting clothing, especially in the forest, where you should wear pants and long sleeves, especially in the morning and evening. Avoid dark fabrics. Do not use perfume. As far as repellents are concerned, there are now organic repellent products, less harmful than those containing DEET. At night, use a mosquito net whenever possible: it is one of the most effective protections.
  • How are my transfers between the airport and the boat organized?

Transfers are not included in your package, however, they can be arranged by your GlobeSailor consultant and the base manager. Don't forget to tell your advisor your arrival time.

Please note: It is possible to reach Srub Island by free shuttle (about 10 minutes) from the ferry landing at Trellis Bay. This service is available from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. Trellis Bay / Scrub Island rotations are operated every 2 hours and in the opposite direction every 30 minutes.
  • How does a cruise with skipper and hostess work?

All the skippers we offer are registered and have the necessary professional certificates. They speak English fluently. The skipper is in charge of the navigation and your safety on board. Do not hesitate to participate in the maneouvers with them, they will be happy to teach you the basics of navigation. Regarding the organization, the skipper and the hostess/cook sleep on the boat (either in the saloon or in cabins). All our cabin cruises include the services of a skipper and a hostess (unless otherwise indicated in the contract).
  • What is included in the on board cash box?

The cash box includes the following:
  • The payment of taxes in national parks
  • Tourist and landing taxes in the islands
  • The anchorage and mooring fees at certain ports of call
  • The cost of any additional supplies of: fresh water, fuel, gas, fresh products...
  • How are my meals organised on board the boat?

During your cruise, you benefit from the full board package, including breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Soft drinks and alcohol are not included. Please check the terms and conditions of your quote. Your consultant will be able to provide you with the menus offered on board. They are often prepared with fresh and local products. Please inform us as soon as possible if you are allergic to certain foods or if you have a special diet.
  • What is the currency used?

The currency is the US dollar. 1 Euro = approximately $1.15.

Most international credit cards are accepted, except on the island of Anegada, where it is safer to bring cash. ATMs are available near banks, and we recommend that you bring US dollars with you before boarding the catamaran.
  • What are the payments required to confirm my reservation?

To confirm your reservation, you must inform your GlobeSailor advisor who will put an option for you to collect your deposit. The reservation will only be considered final once your deposit has been received (by bank transfer, Paypal or credit card), from 30 to 50% of the reservation amount. A 100% deposit will be required for any reservation made within one month of departure. The balance is due no later than 45 days before the date of embarkation.
  • What happens in the event of a cancellation?

In case of cancellation, you must inform your GlobeSailor consultant as soon as possible. Whatever the cause, the following cancellation fees will be due: up to 90 days before departure: 30% /// from 89 to 60 days: 50% /// from 59 to 30 days: 75% /// from 29 days to departure: 100% of the amount of your reservation.
