Itinerary

Map
Your cruise takes place in the turquoise waters of the Guadeloupe archipelago, passing through Dominica. Meet cultures of a thousand and one colours and postcard landscapes.
DAY 1 : Pointe-à-Pitre - Marie-Galante (about 3h of navigation)
The crew will meet you at the Bas du Fort marina in Pointe-à-Pitre at 8pm. After setting up your belongings in your cabin, the skipper will give you a quick briefing on your itinerary. You will then set sail with all your sails out to Anse Canot in Marie-Galante. Dinner and night at anchor.

DAY 2 : Marie-Galante - Dominica
After breakfast, the skipper hoists the sails in the direction of the Island of a Hundred Mills. The island contains some of the local gastronomy's must-tries including: "caca bœuf" cakes and "tourments d'amour" (torments of love). An optional visit of the island by bus can be proposed to you. Lunch on board, then departure to Dominica. We will propose you to take part in the mythical Sunday evening barbecue on the beach of Portsmouth, in honour of passing yachtsmen (optional). Night on board.

DAY 3 : Dominica
Discover Dominica, nicknamed the "Nature Island", and its Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the morning, your skipper will take care of customs and immigration formalities. Lunch on board. Optional visit of the island by bus with a driver-guide who will take you to Red Rocks, and to the dizzying Milton Falls (25 meters high). Its natural swimming pool is ideal for cooling off. You will also meet locals on visits to local farms. Dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 4 : Dominica - Pigeon Island (about 7hrs sailing)
Enjoy your breakfast while admiring one last time this sublime view of Dominica. The skipper weighs anchor and sets sail for the west coast of Guadeloupe. Take advantage of these 7 hours of sailing to relax or read a book on the comfortable benches of the boat. You will anchor and have lunch near the Cousteau Reserve, opposite Pigeon Islet. The setting is perfect for diving and swimming. Dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 5 : Les Saintes (about 3 hours of sailing)
On the programme this morning, relaxation, water activities and snorkeling in waters teeming with fish. For scuba diving enthusiasts, we can organize (at an extra charge) outings with local clubs. After lunch, you set sail for Les Saintes. Anchorage in the Anse du Bourg (depending on buoy availability) located on the Terre-de-Haut island. Dinner and overnight on board.

DAY 6 : Les Saintes
We propose you an excursion (optional) to visit the village and discover Fort Napoleon, nestled at the top of the Morne Mire. Lunch on board and afternoon free. Take advantage of this moment to explore the colourful village, chat with its inhabitants, taste some local specialities (fish pancakes, crab pudding...) or simply lie down on a warm sandy beach. Dinner and night on board.

DAY 7 : Gosier Island (about 4h30 of navigation)
You sail to Sugar Loaf. This volcanic hill is home to a beautiful beach known for its peace and quiet. The waters surrounding it are populated by a myriad of fish that you will discover by putting on flippers, masks and snorkels. Lunch on board. Your journey continues in the direction of the islet of Gosier. Don't miss its local night market and the warm atmosphere that emanates from it. Dinner and night on board.

DAY 8 : Pointe-à-Pitre
You'll set sail again for a few miles and make landfall at Pointe-à-Pitre. Your disembarkation is scheduled at the Bas Fort marina around 10:00 am.

Please note that due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the itinerary is subject to change:
  • The stopover in Dominica initially planned on day 3 cannot be made and will be replaced by Petite-Terre.

FAQ

Before your departure for your cruise to Dominica, French, Belgian, Swiss and Canadian citizens must be in possession of a valid passport and a return ticket. The authorized stay is then 30 days.
For a trip to the West Indies, no vaccination is compulsory for your stay. However, we advise you to pay attention to different things like :

The Zika Virus
Due to the presence of the Zika virus transmitted by tiger mosquito bites, it is recommended that pregnant women or women planning to become pregnant postpone their stay or protect themselves against mosquito bites. Symptoms include fever, headache, joint pain and skin rashes.

Dengue fever
The main health concern is the resurgence of dengue fever cases throughout the Caribbean region. This disease transmitted by mosquitoes presents first symptoms similar to those of a big flu (fever exceeding 40°C), before degenerating: nausea, vomiting, dehydration, even skin rashes... There is a potentially fatal - but fortunately rare - form of haemorrhage.

Chikungunya
This mosquito-borne viral disease appeared in the West Indies in 2014. Symptoms are similar to those of the flu with the addition of joint pain which can be severe. As with dengue fever and Zika, there is no vaccine or effective treatment. It is therefore necessary to protect oneself as much as possible from mosquitoes. Fortunately, severe forms are extremely rare. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

Protecting yourself against mosquito bites
There is no vaccine or treatment for these diseases; only the symptoms are treated. It is therefore necessary to protect oneself as much as possible from bites.
Wear long, covering clothes, especially in the forest, where you will wear long pants and long sleeves, especially in the morning and evening. Avoid dark fabrics. Do not wear perfume. On the repellent side, there are now organic repellents available, which are less harmful than those containing DEET. At night, use a mosquito net whenever possible: it is one of the most effective protections.
All the skippers we propose are registered and have the necessary professional certificates. They speak English fluently. If you have any special requirements regarding the skipper, please let us know. The skipper is in charge of the navigation and your safety on board. Do not hesitate to take part in the manoeuvres with him, he will be happy to teach you the basics of navigation. Concerning the organization, the skipper sleeps on the boat, either in a separate cabin or in the saloon. The skipper is not in charge of cooking or washing up. On request, a hostess (or cook) can prepare your meals, clean the saloon, your cabins and more generally ensure the good order of the boat. All our cabin cruises include the services, at least, of a skipper and a hostess (unless otherwise specified in the contract).
The transfer can be arranged by your GlobeSailor consultant and the base chief by taxi or minibus. Payment for this service is usually made to GlobeSailor at the time of the balance payment or directly on site in cash. Don't forget to send your arrival times to your consultant.
This cabin cruise includes an All Inclusive pension and the services of a hostess-cook. Please check the terms and conditions of your quotation. Your consultant will be able to send you the menus proposed on board on request. They are often prepared using fresh, local produce. Please inform us as soon as possible if you are allergic to certain foods or follow a special diet.
We offer you a package of 4 excursions that will allow you to learn more about the destination.

Day 2: Marie Galante (about 3 hours)

On Sunday evening, enjoy a delicious barbecue on Portsmouth beach for dinner. This one is organised in honour of passing boaters by the island's boat men's association.

You will also discover local farms (tasting of local products) while enjoying the wildlife as this site is classified as a national bird sanctuary. Don't forget your binoculars.

The unit of currency in Dominica is the East Caribbean Dollar (EC$ or XCD).
In April 2018, 1 € = 3.32 EC$ and 1 EC$ = 0.3 €. On the other hand, the exchange rate of the East Caribbean dollar against the dollar is fixed: 1 US$ = 2.70 EC$.
The East Caribbean dollar is quoted in 7 other English-speaking Caribbean islands: Anguilla, Antigua, Grenadines, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and St. Lucia.

Guadeloupe (and all the islands attached to it) is a French department. The Euro is therefore the common currency.
