Itinerary of your cruise

A comprehensive programme covering the Atlantic, designed to sail with the winds and currents, following in the footsteps of the great navigators. From tropical coastal voyages to major transatlantic crossings, the itinerary is divided into three main seasons: from Lisbon to the Caribbean, from Bermuda to the Azores, and back to Galicia.

Caribbean

WINTER CRUISES: from Europe to the Caribbean (November & December)
Setting sail from Lisbon, La Peregrina gradually heads south, following the classic trade wind route. Carried by steady winds and often favourable seas, these crossings offer ideal sailing conditions for clocking up valuable offshore miles in an absolutely exceptional setting.

● Lisbon → Lanzarote: 640 nm / 10 days
● Lisbon → Cape Verde: 1,540 nm / 21 days
● Lisbon → Caribbean: 3,840 nm / 43 days
● Lanzarote → Cape Verde: 900 nm / 10 days
● Cape Verde → Caribbean: 2,300 nm / 19 days
● Lanzarote → Caribbean: 3,200 nm / 32 days

CARIBBEAN CRUISES: Sailing in the Antilles (January to April)
Once in the Caribbean, La Peregrina offers several round-trip itineraries between the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Martinique, allowing you to discover some of the most beautiful islands of the Lesser Antilles whilst sailing on the open sea. It is the perfect opportunity to sail in the tropics, amidst turquoise waters, steady winds and picture-postcard anchorages.

● BVI → Martinique: 550 nm / 9 days
● Martinique → BVI: 400 nm / 8 days
● Complete Caribbean (return trip): 950 nm / 16 days

SUMMER CRUISES: Return to Europe and sailing in the Azores (May to August)
With the return of spring, La Peregrina begins her journey back to Europe, taking the northern Atlantic route via Bermuda and the Azores, before reaching Baiona in Spanish Galicia. Ideal crossings for a gradual and supervised journey from the Caribbean to Europe.

● BVI → Bermuda: 850 nm / 7 days
● BVI → Azores: 3,650 nm / 24 days
● Bermuda → Azores: 1,800 nm / 16 days
● Bermuda → Baiona: 2,670 nm / 27 days
● Azores → Baiona: 870 nm / 8 days
● BVI → Baiona (full crossing): 3,520 nm / 35 days

In July and August, set sail for the Azores! Departing from Baiona, La Peregrina takes you on a round-trip journey through the heart of this volcanic archipelago, lost in the middle of the North Atlantic, for an intimate sailing experience amongst wild islands and unspoilt anchorages.

● Baiona → Madeira: 650 nm / 7 days
● Madeira → Azores: 480 nm / 7 days
● Azores → Inter-island: 450 nm / 7 days
● Azores → Baiona: 870 nm / 8 days

Frequently asked questions

  • What official documents do I need to bring with me?

We ask that all passengers ensure they have the following documents in their possession before boarding La Peregrina:
    • A valid passport and any other required travel documents
    • Insurance documents
    • Return tickets (train/bus/plane) or sufficient funds to return home
    • Logbook if you wish to have your miles validated
    • Spending money: credit/debit card if you are stopping at a foreign port
    • For longer journeys or stops at foreign ports: European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • A few tips for your journey:

Below are a few tips to ensure your transatlantic crossing goes as smoothly as possible:
We recommend seeing your GP and dentist just before you leave: dental problems can be particularly troublesome.

Pack a few extra medicines and tailor your first-aid kit to your own health needs:
    • For seasickness. No one is immune to seasickness.
    • Broad-spectrum antibiotics (e.g. amoxicillin)
    • Pain relief: it is better to take paracetamol or aspirin rather than anti-inflammatories (Advil, ibuprofen, etc.).
    • Adrenaline auto-injector (Anapen): in case of an allergic reaction. Anyone can have an unexpected allergic reaction with serious consequences. If you are at risk of an allergic reaction, inform the skipper and it is best to have such medication to hand.
    • It is useful to bring your prescriptions with you, as some medicines are authorised in France but banned in certain countries (ask your GP).
  • Do you need sailing experience to come aboard La Peregrina?

Beginners are welcome on the 7-day itineraries. No prior experience is required: your RYA-qualified skippers will supervise and guide you every step of the way. For longer crossings, however, some experience of sailing at sea is recommended, so that everyone can enjoy the adventure to the full with complete peace of mind.

The minimum age for boarding is 18. Exceptions may be considered for young sailors aged 16 and over who can demonstrate experience at sea, subject to approval by the skipper.

If in doubt, please do not hesitate to contact your GlobeSailor advisor, who will help you choose the trip best suited to your profile.
  • How does boarding and disembarking work?

Boarding takes place the day before departure; we strongly recommend that you stay close to the boat and do not rely on flights or transport that may be delayed. Disembarkation may take place once the captain has completed customs formalities. If the arrival time does not coincide with your flight, you may remain on board for up to 24 hours, provided you inform the captain in advance and this is possible.

Disembarkation takes place no later than the final day of the programme. The crew must prepare the boat for the next passengers and carry out maintenance work; you will therefore not be able to remain on board beyond this date. If you wish to extend your stay to explore the destination, we recommend booking a hotel room.
  • What can I expect when I board the ship?

On arrival, you will be welcomed by the captain, who will show you around the boat, introduce you to the crew, assign you your berth and show you where to store your belongings.

You will be issued with an inflatable life jacket for the duration of the voyage. It must be worn at all times, in accordance with the captain’s instructions. The crew will provide you with safety training before setting sail, and this training will continue daily throughout the crossing.

You will play an active part in sailing the yacht: watchkeeping at the helm, adjusting the sails, kitchen duties, deck maintenance and daily cleaning are all part of life on board.

Sailing at sea is a 24-hour operation. A watch system is in place to manage this, and each crew member is assigned a role. You will quickly become familiar with the rhythm of life on board.
  • What are meals like on board the sailing boat?

Meals on board incur a daily surcharge (payable to the ship’s cash box). We will do our best to cater to the dietary requirements specified on your booking form.

Snacks, fruit and hot or cold drinks are available at all times on a self-service basis. Everyone will take turns helping with kitchen duties: cooking, washing up, setting the table and serving meals.
  • What equipment should I bring with me?

Below is a non-exhaustive list of items we recommend you bring with you:
    • Shorts
    • T-shirts
    • Underwear
    • Swimsuit
    • Towel (a microfibre or sports towel is recommended)
