Start your navigation from our base in Sorrento, and take a trip to the ruins of Pompeii, the town which was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Or charter your boat from the north and start your adventure in the charming city of Venice, and take a gondola ride through the historic canals, which are still used today as a basic means of transportation around the city! If you’re yearning for the rustic charms of Tuscany, rent a boat from Porto di Cecina, and sail up the coast to Pisa. Here you can see the famous ‘Leaning Tower of Pisa’ which began sinking in the 12th century, and was expected to have collapsed by 2000, but it still stands today and is definitely worth a visit!

24 Hours in Rome

If you’re sailing past Rome or chartering your sailboat from Porto di Roma or Marina di Nettuno, give yourself at least 24 hours to explore Italy’s vibrant capital. Start the day with a cappuccino and a cornetti from Cristalli di Zucchero, and then wander to the breathtaking Trevi Fountain and throw a coin over your left shoulder (as legend suggests it will ensure your return to Rome!) Then take a walk via the stunning Piazza Venezia to the Colosseum, the largest Amphitheatre of its type ever built by the Roman Empire. When you start getting hungry, you’ll come across many enticing restaurants but if you fancy seeing a typical Roman market, head to Campo de’ Fiori where you can get heavenly pizzas and try many other Italian specialties. In the afternoon, you can walk or take a bus to Vatican City, where you can visit the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica and see Michelangelo’s Pieta, and wander through the Vatican Museums until your feet get tired, with a refreshing gelato somewhere in the mix. If you have time (or any energy left), head into the bohemian area of Monti to wander the cobbled lanes and look around the charming alternative and vintage shops. For dinner and drinks, again, you’ll be spoilt for choice, but if you’re looking for recommendations in the Monti area, try L’Asino d’Oro, where you’ll find gourmet Italian food for reasonable prices.
