Meridian is a traditional Norwegian sailing yacht built in 1994 to a design by Colin Archer, renowned for his rescue boats and polar expedition vessels. At 15 metres long, this sturdy, seaworthy yacht served as a scientific base in Svalbard for ten years. On deck, take in the scenery, while the welcoming saloon brings everyone together around the table to share meals, recount the day’s adventures or plan the next day’s outing. With its stove and heating system, the yacht offers a comfortable retreat, even in the depths of the Arctic winter.

Itinerary of your cruise

Throughout the week in Norway’s Lyngen Alps, you’ll combine ski touring with sailing through the fjords and relaxing on board. A unique experience that brings you closer to nature as you discover the wild beauty of the Arctic.

Map
Norway

DAY 1: Tromsø
Board in Tromsø between 15:00 and 16:00 and meet the crew. Settle in, explore the yacht and attend a safety briefing before going through the programme for the week. If conditions allow, you’ll leave Tromsø for your first sail. In the evening, get to know one another over your first dinner on board.

DAY 2: The islands around Tromsø: your first ski tour
After breakfast, your guide assesses the conditions and chooses your first destination nearby. Today is all about finding your rhythm and enjoying your first descent. Towards the end of the day, sail along the Arctic coastline to a new anchorage.

DAY 3: The Lyngen Alps
Head for Lyngen, where peaks rise dramatically from the fjords and many ski routes lead all the way down to the sea. Depending on the group and the conditions, you’ll set off on an easier tour or tackle a more ambitious route.

DAY 4: Following the conditions
Explore another part of Lyngen, visit a neighbouring island or spend more time sailing. Travelling by yacht gives you plenty of options, but mountain conditions always come first.

DAY 5: Further along the coast
If the weather and snow conditions allow, set off to explore more remote islands and stretches of coastline, perhaps venturing further north. Otherwise, stay in Lyngen if that’s where the best conditions are.

DAY 6: Your final full day
Enjoy one last full day in the mountains, whether that means a rewarding ski tour, a more challenging route or a gentler outing. In the evening, share your final dinner on board, perhaps beneath the Northern Lights.

DAY 7: Return to Tromsø
After breakfast, sail back to Tromsø, allowing enough time for a safe return. Disembark as your cruise comes to an end.

Here’s what a typical day looks like:
In Norway’s Lyngen Alps, every day is different. Your programme adapts to the weather, snow conditions and the group’s preferences. Here’s a glimpse of daily life, combining mountain adventures with relaxing moments at sea.

07:30: Breakfast on board
Start your day with breakfast on board. This is a chance to check the weather forecast with your guide and choose the ski route best suited to the day’s conditions.

08:30: Head ashore
When conditions allow, take the tender ashore. Once your equipment is ready, set off on a new adventure through the wild, snow-covered landscapes of the Lyngen Alps.

09:00–15:00: Ski touring
Make your way at your own pace through snowy terrain and spectacular scenery. Stop for a break to recharge before enjoying the descent. Depending on the conditions and the participants’ abilities, you may follow an easier route or take on a more demanding tour.

Afternoon: Back on board
After several hours in the mountains, return to the yacht to warm up, enjoy a hot drink and relax. It’s the perfect time to rest and share your highlights of the day.

Late afternoon: Sailing
If the weather allows, sail to a new anchorage, taking in the spectacular scenery of the Norwegian fjords in the changing light of the Arctic winter. If your current location deserves a longer stop, you may choose to stay. Sailing distances and times vary throughout the trip.

Evening: Dinner and relaxation
Round off the day with dinner together in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Share stories of your adventures and plan your next outing with your guide. Afterwards, enjoy a game of cards, have a drink or head out on deck to admire the Arctic sky.

IMPORTANT:
● The itinerary above is provided as a guide only.
● No specific summit or route is guaranteed: the crew and guide adapt the programme daily according to the weather, snow conditions, avalanche risk, sailing conditions and the group’s abilities. Safety and returning to Tromsø at the end of the week remain the priorities.
● For private charters (7 to 14 days, up to 7 participants), the itinerary is planned with the crew to suit the group’s preferences, whether that means intensive ski touring, exploring more remote stretches of coastline or spending more time sailing.

The itinerary may be changed without prior notice due to technical or weather conditions.

Frequently asked questions

  • What documents do I need to travel to Norway?

As Norway is part of the Schengen Area, there are no border checks for travellers arriving from another Schengen country, such as France.
French nationals may enter with a valid passport or national identity card.

Please note that the Norwegian authorities do not recognise the extended validity of expired French national identity cards. This concerns cards issued to adults between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2013, which the French authorities consider valid for five years beyond the expiry date printed on the back, although the card itself has not been physically updated to reflect this extension.

If the printed expiry date on your national identity card has passed, you must therefore carry a valid passport to travel to Norway.

The Svalbard archipelago is not part of the Schengen Area. A valid national identity card is required to travel there. As border police may require a passport before departure on certain flights to Svalbard or upon arrival, we strongly recommend travelling with a valid passport when visiting the archipelago.

  • Who are Thea and Fergus?

You’ll sail alongside Thea and Fergus. Fergus, your skipper, is an experienced sailor with thousands of nautical miles under his belt and a deep familiarity with Norway’s wild coastline. Calm and reassuring, he knows which fjord will offer shelter when the wind changes and enjoys teaching beginners how to trim the sails. Thea, a photographer with a passion for life on board, is your cruise host. She shares stories of the coastal villages, makes sure delicious meals are served from the galley and brings a warmth that makes every voyage unforgettable.
  • Is my cruise entirely english-speaking?

We welcome an international clientele, so it is common to meet guests of different nationalities on board. This creates opportunities for enriching conversations and memorable encounters!

The crews are mainly English-speaking and are qualified to provide a multilingual service.
  • What payments are required to confirm my booking?

To confirm your booking, please contact your GlobeSailor adviser, who will place a provisional hold while awaiting your deposit.

Your booking will only be confirmed once we have received a deposit of 50% of the total booking amount, payable by bank transfer, PayPal or credit card.
