Your Boat

  • Hanse 44 Varianta
  • 3 total cabins
  • 7 people max
  • 1 crew members

During your course, you will sail on board either Largo 44 or Hanse 44. Both of those sailing yachts are 14 mitres long. Largo 44 is a great choice to experience the sensations of the sea and to learn all the basics of sailing. The boat is equipped with a fixed keel and a large pit wheel that offers good visibility. The boat has a large sail area and performs well under a light breeze. However, this boat performs well under all points of sail thanks to its 2.20 meters draft. The boat is equipped with a symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnaker. The deck spaces are large, allowing each crew member to work without getting in each other's way.

Your Cabin

Your Hanse 44 sailboat has 4 double cabins and a bathroom. You will share your cabin with one of your teammates.
The maximum number of passengers on this cruise will be 6 or 7 people in addition to the trainer.

Itinerary of your cruise

Southern Brittany and its islands offer an ideal sailing area to progress. You will evolve according to the weather conditions between the magnificent coasts of Morbihan and Finistère.

Map
Brittany

DAY 1 : Port de Kernével (Larmor Plage - near Lorient)
Meet on Saturday at 3 pm in the port of Kernével (free access and parking) for your boarding. After meeting your trainer and your crew members, you will go to a supermarket located a few minutes drive from the marina to buy supplies. This crucial step allows you to start the cruise in a pleasant atmosphere and to optimise the future organisation on board.
Back on the boat, it will be time to get ready to set sail in the best conditions (setting the sails and sheets, preparing the moorings...).

DAYS 2 to 6: Sailing
The programme of your sailing sessions will cover the points and notions mentioned below. However, if you have any special requirements, please let Vincent know so that he can adapt the programme accordingly.

  • Port manoeuvres (setting sail and berthing)
  • Adaptation of the sail according to the wind strength
  • Change of tack (tacking and gybing)
  • Change of points of sail (upwind, beam, downwind, etc.)
  • Safety (man overboard, use of VHF, reefing, etc.)
  • Weather (reading the sky, cloud shapes, atmospheric circulation...)
  • Cartography (map reading, positioning techniques...)

Your sailing area will extend along the Morbihan and Finistère coasts:

  • The Cornouaille coast extends from the Pointe du Raz (rocky promontory located at the westernmost point of Finistère) to Pont-Aven (the famous "city of painters"). It offers an incredible variety of landscapes and a sailing area where there is no lack of rias. They are also ideal for sheltering in bad weather.

  • Concarneau has, without doubt, one of the most beautiful bays in Brittany. Its port is full of life with hundreds of fishermen. Its historical past is felt in its impressive 14th-century ramparts which you can admire while doing some harbour manoeuvres...

  • Loctudy has sheltered coasts that you can sail along during a "à la carte" navigation. This is an interesting exercise to put aside the electronic devices and learn how to read a marine chart (colours, numbers and letters used, etc.).

  • Groix is only 5 nautical miles from Lorient. It is very easy to access and its main port, Port Tudy, will be ideal for practising port manoeuvres. The island is also home to many sheltered anchorages with magnificent scenery (Locmaria, Port Lay, Port Mélite, Quelhuit...).

  • The Glénan archipelago is made up of 7 islets with fine sand lost in the middle of translucent water. It is a perfect playground for practising taking a trunk and anchoring. It is also the home of Europe's first sailing school, Les Glénans!

  • Belle-Île is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places on the Atlantic coast. What better way to improve than to sail in an exceptional setting? Here again, there are numerous anchorages where you can spend the night (Sauzon, Sterven-Stervraz, Goulphar, l'anse de Kérel...).

  • Quiberon and its peninsula offers a nice alternative in case of capricious weather. Its protected bay allows you to sail between its 3 main ports (Port Haliguen, Le Crouesty and La Trinité-sur-Mer) and other smaller ones full of charm (Auray, Baden, Arradon...).

  • Houat is a small island whose granite cliffs are easily visible from Quiberon. By anchoring along its coast (Tréach ar Goured to the east, Tréach ar Salus to the south-west or the port of Saint-Gildas to the north), you will be able to see the richness of its fauna and flora.

  • Hoëdic, Houat's little sister, is very popular with sailors because of the diversity of its landscapes and the warm welcome of its inhabitants. Its coastline oscillates between sandy creeks and rocky cliffs. Depending on the direction and strength of the wind, you can stop off in the port of La Croix or Hoëdic.

Depending on the weather conditions, you can spend the night at anchor or at the quay.

DAY 7 : Port de Kernével (Larmor Plage)
You will dock in the port of Kernével in the early afternoon. It will be time to fold the sails, clear the lines and ropes and also to clean up together!
Your disembarkation is scheduled for Friday, around 4 pm.

Please note:

  • Food will be provided only on the first day of the course. After having defined a list with your trainer and all your crew members you will do your shopping in a supermarket located near the port.
  • The cooking and washing up will be done in rotation by the whole crew (trainer and trainees).
  • When you return to the port, we ask you to participate in the end-of-course cleaning. This is indeed an essential and necessary step that should not be neglected after each cruise.
