7-day itinerary for your catamaran charter in Le Marin

As with many of the islands in this part of the word, the best way to discover Le Marin and more generally, Martinique, is to charter a boat. There are plenty of charming bays and islets which are within hopping distance if you want to add even more richness and diversity to your charter. The distances are relatively short meaning navigation is easy, and while certain paths of access to the beach can be more chaotic, renting a boat not only gives you quick access to beaches but also enables you to access undiscovered bays and more hidden coves.

Day 1: Fort-de-France

Situated on the west coast of Martinique, make a stop-off at Fort-de-France during your catamaran charter in Le Marin. This is the largest town on the island, so you may not be able to see it all in just one day. You could perhaps take more time here or come back to the town at the end of your charter to catch up on what you missed. The Balata garden is situated around 10km from Fort-de-France and is an essential stop-off for any nature-lover who is passionate about tropical and botanic species. This floral garden was only opened to the public in 1986 and invites you to discover a rich and astonishing biodiversity.
Make sure you explore the local markets in the area which exude colour and beautiful scents. The centre of the town is also the historical heart of the island and is you want to delve deeper into the history of the island, examine the colonial architecture and visit the famous historical sites and religious buildings. Visiting the local tourist centre will give you more of an idea of what is going on near you.

Day 2: Sainte Anne

When in Martinique, it would be silly to bypass Sainte-Anne which is a particularly beautiful part of the island. Located in the extreme south of the island, Sainte-Anne is found along the coast. This part of the island boasts some of the most beautiful and breath-taking beaches in Martinique. You could easily spend a day just lying on the beautiful Salines beach, which is the definition of paradise with its white sand and blue sea. However, the town itself is also worth a visit. Small but animated, this town is full of ancient monuments and buildings which you can visit during your catamaran charter in Le Marin.

Day 3: Vauclin

This little town is also situated along the Atlantic Coast in the south of Martinique. Begin your day here with a visit to the local market where you’ll be able to find all sorts of local specialities: fruit, spices and coffee. This little area is also home to some charming and untouched beaches which will delight all water sports fanatics.

Day 4: Trois Îlets – Diamant

Sitting around 40km from Fort-de-France lies Les Trois Îlets, a charming village with traditional redbrick and red-roofed houses, a striking church and a little market place. A district in the region is well-known for producing and creating pottery and tiles. Make the most of your visit to see magnificent creole houses and picturesque buildings.

Day 5: Route de la Trace and the north of the island

In the north of the island, you will be blown away by the beautiful landscapes. With mountains and waterfalls, this part of the island really lacks nothing in terms of natural beauty. The ruins of Saint Pierre are impressive to visit. There are also two superb black sand beaches in the region. The authentic and preserved charm of the region had led some to argue that this is a more authentic Martinique. It is undeniably less touristy, and you will meet more local people and experience a different way of life. We would even recommend taking 2 days to explore this area during your catamaran charter in Le Marin, if you are able.

Day 6: Caravelle

Dedicate a day to unearth the treasures of la Caravelle. All nature-lovers will agree that this slice of paradise in Martinique is exceptional for long walks and hikes. As well as unique flora and fauna, and beautiful wildlife, you can also visit the Banana museum and the Saint James distillery.

Day 7: Le Marin

One of the biggest sailing ports in Martinique and one of the most well known in the whole of the Caribbean. The promenade is lines with shops, bars and restaurants which creates a lively atmosphere for visitors and keeps families well-entertained. In the marina, you will also find many places where you can rent the necessary gear for water sports.
