Three Reasons to Charter a Catamaran in Athens

1. Ravishing Riviera

The Athenian Riviera is a gem of the Apollo coast. With the majority of tourists visiting the city centre, the Riviera is often overlooked, but is a glorious destination for a catamaran charter. With beautiful beaches, charming pebbly coves and swanky marinas, it really is a sailor’s dream, and the abundance of beachfront bars and fresh seafood restaurants makes it an ideal base from which to rent a boat and start your navigation. From here you can take trips to the main city, the emerald waters of the Lake Vouliagmeni hot springs, and the beach town of Anavissos, so you will not be short of choice!

2. Perfect Navigation Conditions

Sailing in the Saronic Gulf could not be more easygoing; with the gulf providing some shelter from more severe winds or weather conditions, navigation shouldn’t be too challenging. This makes it perfect for the less experienced sailors, and makes it a completely stress-free catamaran charter for the pro’s. In addition, the Mediterranean climate which governs Athens’ waters means that you can expect sunny, blue skies and warm temperatures; perfect for a charter holiday!

3. Greek Gastronomy

Greece is recognized all over the world for its culinary brilliance, and where better to sample it than the country’s buzzing capital? The home of Moussaka and Baklava, a catamaran charter in Athens will expose you to all the vibrant flavours of the country’s delightful cuisine. Why not try Kolokithokeftedes? (Obviously we all know what these are, but just to clarify: salty courgette, feta and mint balls.)

‘The Ancient Capital of the World’

Not only the capital city of Greece, Athens is considered to be one of the most historically important cities in the whole world, so a catamaran charter here is unlike anywhere else!

The city is home to the famous Acropolis, which hasn’t been inhabited since 510BC when the Delphic Oracle declared it should be a province of the Gods. The Parthenon was built in dedication to the goddess Athena, commissioned by Pericles, and was the largest completed Doric temple in all of Greece, built entirely of white marble.

Athens is also home to Ancient Olympia, and where the flame is still lit at the start of each games. Such remains have been critical in shaping our modern understanding of how western civilization was born in the time of the Ancient Greeks. So, charter from one of our many bases, and hop aboard your catamaran to explore the wonders of the incredible city of Athens.

An Afternoon in the Plaka…

Below the Acropolis lies the Plaka neighbourhood, which is the oldest in Athens, with a history of over 3,500 years. The charming, narrow, colourful streets are mostly blocked off from cars, and dotted with jewelry and antiques stores. Spend a few hours wandering the beautiful side streets, sitting in cafes and exploring galleries such as the ‘Frisseras Museum of Contemporary Greek & European Painting’ and the ‘Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments’. The area is a beautiful area to take a leisurely stroll and soak up the atmosphere of the city and its history, so even if you only have a small amount of time to spare before your catamaran charter, spend it here!
