The Maldives archipelago is a true nirvana for all divers. This cruise will take place on a yacht which is specially designed for diving cruises, your captain will take you to the most beautiful diving spots. This 11-day trip will allow you to observe countless fish species such as whale sharks, manta rays, stingrays, jacks, schools of snappers and many others. You will make 2 to 3 dives per day.

Embark aboard the Seafari Explorer 2, a magnificent yacht measuring 42 meters long and 10 meters wide, ideal for exploring the Maldivian atolls. This modern boat has 4 decks and a jacuzzi. The sun deck is ideal for relaxing on a deckchair between two dives. It’s also the perfect place to admire the sunsets over the horizon. The interior design will allow you to relax while having a drink at the bar and listening to music.

The Seafari Explorer 2 is made up of 14 cabins, including 12 double or twins (with a double bed or two twin beds), and 2 singles (with a single bed). It can therefore accommodate up to 26 people. All cabins are air-conditioned and have a bathroom with hairdryer and private toilet.

Day 1: Malé
On arrival at Malé airport, you will be greeted by one of the crew members who will take you to the marina. From there, you will take a dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) to reach the yacht. Once on board, you will get to know the crew and other passengers. After you will check in to your cabin and will have a quick briefing. Dinner and overnight on board.

Days 2 - 10: Diving Cruise
For more than a week, your captain and guide will select the best route through the Atolls for you to enjoy the most beautiful dives.

  • 10:30 am: first or second dive (depending on the day)

  • 4 pm: visit of the island or free time
  • 6 pm: Relaxation time (bar opens)

    • South Malé Atoll:
      • Cocoa Kandu and Kandhoolua Thila are home to a variety of marine life and a coral reef
      • Guraidhoo Kandu is a particularly deep channel where you can observe eagle rays and schools of sharks.
    • Vaavu Atoll:
      • Miyaru Kandu is a protected site with numerous caves inhabited by countless fish species (angelfish, balloon fish, etc.) It is also a home to the white-tip and black-tip sharks.
      • Golden Wallis named after the colourful coral reef wall and its golden glints. Here, life proliferates at its own, special pace.
      • Alimatha HR is an exceptional site for night dives. Black-tip sharks, stingrays, big-headed jacks and nurse sharks can all be seen here.
    • South Ari Atoll:
      • Dhigga Thila offers a variety of soft coral reefs to explore. This place is home for many coral species such as the beautiful Acropora.
      • Rangali Madivaru is located to the west of Ari Atoll. It is a washing station for manta rays.
      • Maamigili HR is a long reef where it is possible to encounter whale and leopard sharks.
    • Meemu Atoll
      • Muli Corner is a reef made up of several canyons where multiple schools of jacks and barracudas, grey sharks and sometimes manta rays swim.
      • Muli Kandu is a breeding ground for turtles. However, you can also see species of snapper and schools of tuna or jacks, sharks and eagle rays.
      • Vanhuravalhi Kandu is a magnificent channel which is full of the soft corals, Here, eagle rays, schools of snappers and grey sharks can be seen.
      • Kureli Kandu is a shallow channel with a predominantly outflowing stream that supports the presence of manta rays.
      • Hakura Thila is a remarkable dive spot for all photography enthusiasts. On the northern tip, the light effects are magnificent.
    • Thaa Atoll
      • Kalhufahala Giri is a reef made of hard and soft corals where eagle rays, grey and white-tip sharks pass by every day.
      • Olhugiri Kandu is a reef where you can see schools of snappers, jacks, sharks, eagle rays and beautiful corals.

    Day 11: Mahé
    Return to the marina for the cruise disembarkation at 7:30 am. You will then be transferred to the airport for your return flight.

    • ATTENTION: this cruise requires N2, Advanced, Cmas 2 or equivalent with 50 logged dives. It is open to N1, Open Water, Cmas 1* or equivalent with a minimum of 50 dives, with a compulsory Advanced course and in compliance with the prerogatives.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Recommendations and safety advice to divers:

      Maldives legislation limits the depth to 30 meters for recreational diving.

      Mandatory:
      - Parachute and whistle for each diver (pre-booked rental required).
      - Dive computer (pre-booked rental required).
      - Medical certificate less than one-year-old authorizing the practice of scuba diving ( bring a copy to leave on-site).
      - Proof of diving level and logbook.
      - Insurance covering water activities and specifically scuba diving (can be purchased on board for the duration of the stay).

      Recommended:
      - Flashlight and portable mirror.
      - Dive light.

      We also recommend that divers bring a first aid kit with medication for digestive problems, ecological sun cream, anti-mosquito, antihistamine cream and other items according to the indications and advice of the attending physician and the recommendations concerning the destination.
    • Insurance and medical questionnaire:

      Before departure, each participant must check that he/she is covered by assistance/repatriation insurance and specific insurance covering water activities such as scuba diving and/or snorkelling. Insurance covering scuba diving activities is mandatory for divers. Each diver must be able to provide an insurance certificate at the time of check-in.
      If not, the complementary DiveAssure insurance must be purchased on site. A medical certificate of physical fitness for diving is also mandatory. It should date less than one year old. A medical survey should be completed prior to departure or on the spot.
    • What are the required documents for the diving cruise?

      To participate in this cruise, you must provide the following documents:
      - certification and logbook
      - medical certificate of fitness issued not less than one year ago
      - compulsory diving insurance

      PASSPORT: Mandatory with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of return.
      Important: The name, surname, passport number and desired number of dives for each participant must be provided to us at least 30 days before the arrival date.
    • What is the minimum level of diving required?

      To participate in this cruise, you must have an N2, Advanced, Cmas 2 * or equivalent level with 50 registered dives.
      The cruise is open to N1, Open Water, Cmas 1 * or equivalent with 50 dives minimum with Advanced course compulsory and in compliance with prerogatives. A supervisor may be required, a decision of the instructors on board, to any diver whose technical level is not high enough to dive safely. For the same reasons, the instructors may prohibit certain dives deemed too difficult (without compensation).
    • Is everyone on board English-speaking?

      Please note that this cruise is not exclusive to English travelers. It is quite common to meet people of various nationalities on board as we offer cruises to international clientele - encouraging curious and enriching exchanges for both passengers and crew.
      Crew members are multilingual and qualified to offer multilingual service.
    • What happens in case of cancellation?

      If you wish to make a cancellation, you should contact your GlobeSailor advisor as soon as possible. Whatever the circumstances, you will be charged the following cancellation fees, depending on when the cancellation is made: up to 90 days before departure = 25%; 89 to 60 days before departure = 50%; 59 to 30 days before departure = 75%; 29 days or less before departure = 100% of the total cost of your booking. We recommend that you sign up for cancellation insurance with your personal insurance provider.
    • How does a cruise with a skipper work? And a hostess?

      All of our skippers we offer are very professional, experienced with the qualified credentials. They speak fluent English. If you have special requirements in relation to the skipper, please let us know. The skipper is in charge of navigation and your safety on board. Do not hesitate to participate in the maneuvers, he will be delighted to teach you the basics of navigation. Regarding the organization, the skipper sleeps on the boat either in a separate cabin or in the saloon. The skipper is not in charge of cooking or doing dishes. On request, a hostess (or cook) can prepare your meals, clean the saloon, your cabins and more generally keep the boat's orderly. All of our cabin cruises include the services of a skipper and a hostess (unless otherwise stated in the contract).
    • How are meals organised on board?

      During your cruise, you will enjoy full board (international and local cuisine) including breakfast, lunch and dinner (from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 11) as well as water, tea and coffee.
      Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are extra (depending on availability): soft drinks, fruit juices, wine, cocktails, whisky, rum, vodka, pastis and champagne.

      Please inform us as soon as possible if you are allergic to certain foods or diets.
    • Is transfer from the airport to the boat available?

      On arrival and departure, passengers are transferred by Dhoni (a traditional wooden boat) for cruises departing from Male and by airplane or speed boat (with supplement) for cruises departing from other atolls or in case of late arrival. If necessary and according to the arrival and return days and flights, passengers can pay for an additional night in a double room with breakfast. For a daytime wait on the first or last day, the Hulhulé Island hotel with luggage storage, shower, bar and pool offers day use packages with room between $70 and $80 USD.
      Non-contractual rates to be paid on the spot by the passenger, depending on availability, cannot be booked and paid in advance, day use is not covered by Seafari.
    • What do I need to to do to finalise my reservation?

      To confirm your booking, you must inform your GlobeSailor advisor who will put an option/hold on the reservation for you before they collect your deposit. The reservation will be considered as confirmed only after your deposit is received (by bank transfer, Paypal or credit card), 30 to 50% of the amount of the reservation. A deposit of 100% will be required for any booking that is booked less than one month from the departure. The balance must be paid no later than 45 days before the date of departure.
    • What is the time difference in the Maldives?

      The time difference between London and the Maldives is + 4 H in summer, + 5 H in winter.
    • What money is used the Maldives?

      The local currency is the Maldivian rupee or rufiyaa (Mrf), divided into 100 laaris. In July 2016, 1 € = 17 Mrf and 100 Mrf = 5,80 €.
      It is forbidden to import or export rufiyaas.
      On location, the most popular currency is the US dollar. However, Euros are accepted everywhere.
    • What are the advised vaccines needed to travel the Maldives?

      For a trip to the Maldives, we advise you to check that you are up to date on all universal immunizations (DTPP, hepatitis B), and hepatitis A. We also advise you to check with your doctor.
    • What papers are needed to take a trip to the Maldives?

      Before your departure for your Maldives cruise, you must verify that your passport is electric/biometric and valid for at least 6 months after your stay. You must also have a return or continuation ticket and be able to justify sufficient resources: at least 100 US $, + 50 US $ per day.
