Little space in the only port of Gonzo, remember to reserve. Easy anchorage but sometimes choppy.

A baroque situation

We had an order form and a rental contract (signed in March 2018) for a Sun Odyssey 349 named TIDEL BAY. We arrived around 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and were able to sign all the documents regarding this boat with the renter. The boat was shown to us, it was at the port, everything was fine, and we were asked to return around 4 p.m. to be taken by the renter by car to do our provisioning. The first surprise was that we were asked for €200 in cash regarding rental supplements. We knew we had to pay the supplements, but it was not mentioned anywhere that it had to be in cash.

The renter then accompanied us to Malta where we were able to spend the end of the morning and the beginning of the afternoon. We returned as planned around 4 p.m. and were accompanied to do our shopping. When we returned from shopping, it was around 5:45-6 p.m.; the time when we were supposed to take possession of the boat. At that point, there was a delay, and we were told that the boat was not available, and that another one would be given to us but would only be available at 8 p.m.

You can imagine our surprise since we had seen the boat and signed the rental contract for that boat.

We were then offered a Bavaria 36, on which we had no particular remarks, but we could only board the boat after 8 p.m. and therefore could not do the check-in at night, so we did it on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., which obviously delayed our departure.

After that, we did not have any particular problems; the boat was in good condition, except for the sails which had clearly suffered a lot. A strong wind kept us at anchor for more than 48 hours in shelter, and we were able to return the boat on Saturday between 9 and 10 a.m. as planned, despite a propulsion failure when we entered the port of Malta... Everything ended well. You will understand that our appreciation is at least mixed; it is not so much about the boat, but rather about the delay that caused our dissatisfaction.

Successful visit to the maltese archipelago...

The 2007 monohull and its equipment were as we hoped. Very good inventory list in 4 languages. Dedicated maintenance staff (but stressed). At the reception, no free time, good administrative efficiency, checking of contractual elements... I did not understand why we had to pay €175 for the additional deposit to the renter, while I had contracted with Ouest-Assurances for a deductible buyback..... We had a problem before departure, with a clogged black water tank and one out of two marine toilets allowing foul black water to rise. The staff worked hard until Sunday noon.... Despite this work, we had to condemn this marine toilet with defective seals for the rest of the stay. During the stay, the maintenance manager joined us by boat to advise us and address a battery capacity issue in relation to our electrical consumption.....
