When to visit Procida

Procida’s proximity to Naples renders their climates identical, and as such the most enjoyable time to visit the island is between April and October. Chartering a yacht in early spring means you may be more likely to avoid the crowds – but the water is a lot colder for swimming and scuba diving. Try mid-autumn to avail of similar sizzling temperatures with the added benefit of a more pleasant swimming experience. Temperatures in mid-summer can soar to the low 30s, so sun cream is an essential when sailing in this region. Winds are light and steady from the northwest in the mornings, and then switching to a southerly wind for evening sailing. Procida’s appeal lies largely in the uninterrupted views of the shoreline from your boat, which combines a kaleidoscope of colours.

Procida – We Recommend…

1. Terra Murata

A dramatic historical landmark for the region of Procida, this fortified structure stands grand on the coast, atop an immense cliff face. One of the most interesting attractions to visit during your sailing holiday, the journey there requires a tricky little walk across some diverse terrain. But the journey is worth it – once you see the glorious blue sky and sea meet in the horizon from the edge of this cliff, you will be amazed. Those who charter yachts here will love the old Royal Palace, as well as the Abbey of San Michele, both of which are immersed in Italian history. Be sure to look out for the imposing canons on your hike too!

2. Relax on the Beach

Head ashore from your yacht to avail of the vast array of beaches which line the coast of Procida. If you want seclusion, tranquil waters, and an escape from the busy marina, then Il Postinio Beach could be the place for you. It is typically frequented by those who live on the island more than tourists, meaning it is the perfect corner of paradise to top up your tan. If you want to stay close to the hustle and bustle, then choose Chiaiolella Beach where there is a selection of bars and taverns within walking distance should you work up an appetite while swimming. We recommend bringing some snorkel gear to journey under the surface as the water tends to be quite calm and extremely clean.

3. Marina Corricella

A quaint and pleasant fishing village which happens to be the oldest in the island of Procida, Marina Corricella is the epitome of what makes this sailing location so attractive. Traditional fishing practices and wonderfully decorated housefronts transport you to the past in a way that renders the village a truly unique haven. Meandering streets and cobblestone alleys contribute to the magical authenticity of this amazing yacht charter location. If you want incredible views, journey upwards to the point of Callia where the sweeping vistas of the nearby islands make for a stunning evening view.

4. Vivara Island

If the quintessential Italian island lifestyle is still too lively and you need an excluded oasis to escape, this island is the best place to sail. The island is located very close to Procida and is home to an abundance of vibrant Mediterranean vegetation. It is the ideal natural playground to explore, with miles of intertwining trails located throughout the island. Absent of any constructions bar one house which presents spectacular views, the flora and fauna which call this island home present a welcome change of scenery to the villages of Procida. It is definitely one of the most intriguing stops for a yacht charter holiday.

Eating in Procida

Procida’s proximity to Naples and prime location in the Mediterranean Sea means there is a wonderful selection of superb restaurants where which you can taste truly authentic Italian flavours. Seafood is obviously a specialty of the island, with only the freshest produce used in the production of these skilled restaurants. La Lampara is home to a quaint terrace with lookout over the harbour where there is a conglomeration of boats and yachts. Da Mariano is one of the more popular establishments, particularly with the residents of Procida. If you would prefer a quick snack during the day, you can also avail of the treats in Bar da Cavaliere which creates visually stunning and flavoursome creations.

How to get to Procida

The island of Procida is located close to the major Italian city of Naples, so it is probably most convenient to establish Naples as your destination and then take the ferry across to the island, which is 23km in distance. Naples is a substantial Italian city with extensive rail and road links to locations throughout Italy and, indeed, Europe. Naples airport serves many major international and domestic routes and is located roughly thirty minutes from the city. Flights increase in frequency during the high season when yacht charters tend to be more popular, meaning you should have no trouble in reaching Procida stress-free.
