3 Reasons to charter a Yacht in the Dodecanese Islands

Captivating History

The ancient history of Greece gives a unique appeal to a yacht charter in the Dodecanese archipelago; with islands such as Rhodes holding a plethora of fascinating historic attractions. It’s enough to just walk the streets of the medieval city of Rhodes Town, but you can also visit the ancient town of Karimos or the astonishing Acropolis of Lindos, dating back to 1100 B.C., which is only accessible by foot! If you rent a boat from Kos, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous archaeological site of the Asclepius, which was used as a place of worship of various gods including Apollo, Zeus Ikesios and Asklipios.

Alluring Beaches

The beaches of the Dodecanese islands rival those of the Caribbean! Sailing past picture-perfect white sands and crystalline waters; islands like Kos are a haven for beach-bums. Drop anchor and explore soft sands and emerald waters of Mastichari Beach, or Kefalos Beach - both of which are picturesque spots to try out watersports such as windsurfing during your yacht charter. For a different character, try out Thermes beach, located 12km south of Kos Town, a delightful cove of black pebbles and warm water.

Seductive Scenery

Much of Greece is characterized by sublime natural beauty, and this can best be seen in the Dodecanese, where lush greenery cloaks islands such as Samos. If you’re up for a hike during your yacht charter, head along Mount Kerkis to Mount Vigla, to the peak at 1,400m for incredible views and sightings of hundreds of rare exotic plants. Alternatively, there are numerous cycle trails all over the island which will allow you to explore the beautiful landscapes, such as to Glyfada Lake, where you can spot herons, pelicans and flamingos.

Where to eat and drink…

Greece is famed for its exquisite cuisine, and where better to experience this than on the Dodecanese Islands where diet largely consists of freshly caught seafood and locally grown ingredients! If you visit Rhodes during your yacht charter, make sure you spend some time exploring the Old Town and dine in Mama Sofia restaurant where you’ll taste the best traditional cuisine, and can relax after sunset with a cocktail in hand! For a dinner or drinks with a view, head to Barbouni restaurant on Kos, which serves up the freshest seafood with gorgeous sea views.

Sailing Conditions

The Dodecanese Islands are a navigation haven, with mild winds (up to 25 knots) and consistent warm temperatures in the summer months! So, a yacht charter from Kos, Rhodes or Samos should be smooth sailing under the heat of the glorious Mediterranean sun.

Getting There

The islands are easily accessible as there are connecting flights from Athens all year round to Rhodes, Kos and Karpathos. These airports also take international flights during the summer months, so it’s never tricky to reach your yacht charter base!
