Hanauma Bay

Formed in a volcanic crater, Hanauma Bay is a natural basin which fuses sea and volcano. Its name comes from two Hawaiian words: ‘hana’ which means bay, and ‘uma’ which means curved. It’s a natural reserve and a conservation district of marine life. Access is limited so you must plan this visit carefully. The beach is usually packed during the morning and if you want a more relaxed visit, we would recommend late afternoon. On site, you can take a tram to the edge of the crater to have an incredible view of the bay or you can opt for hiking or snorkelling along the coast. However you choose to spend your time in this little slice of paradise, a visit here during your sailboat charter in Hawaii is well worth it.

There are numerous exhibitions to admire and there are also workshops and activities regularly organised by the museum. These waterfalls have a vertical drop of 46 metres. You can reach the waterfalls by hiking up a cliff, and the climb takes around 2 hours. However, there are lots of photo opportunities along the way. You can come across several ecosystems, spectacular scenes and amazing flora and fauna. It’s a natural environment so the path can be muddy or slippery, so make sure to be careful as you hike, and bring all the necessary equipment you need to feel safe.
