The beach is lapped by towering cliffs, protecting it from strong winds. If you are feeling adventurous, try surfing or kitesurfing. We recommend venturing northwest of the town to Praia do Beliche, an excellent surfing spot. Visit the point known as "the end of the world" in medieval times, at Cabo de São Vicente, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. For history enthusiasts, explore the historic Fortaleza de Sagres, a 15th-century fortress with only one exterior wall.
