Don't miss it in Sardinia

Don’t miss:

La Maddalena

Off the north coast of Sardinia, 20 minutes by boat from the port of Palau, lies the La Maddalena archipelago. Home to over 60 stunning islands, which are best explored by boat, so you can find the secret, remote corners inaccessible on foot; it is the perfect spot for your sailboat charter! Scattered with glorious turquoise lagoons such as Porto della Madonna, and some incredible beaches like Spalmatore and Monte Rena where glistening azure waters meet pristine sands. Some of the most popular islands are Maddalena and Caprera, two of only three islands in the archipelago which are inhabited. The island of Budelli is home to what is considered to be Italy’s most famous beach: Spiaggia Rosa. Famed from Antonioni’s 1964 film, ‘Il Deserto Rosso’, the beach is home to striking pink sands, which, though cordoned off since 1993 in an effort to protect the land, you can still pay a visit to. The rugged cliffs and coastline make La Maddalena archipelago a beautiful place to explore during your sailboat charter, so don’t miss out on the chance to sail these gorgeous waters.

Portisco

Located 17km from the city of Olbia, Portisco is a small, charming village with a marina with 589 berths on the north-east coast of Sardinia. A common base for superyachts, it often attracts a rich and famous crowd to its shores, but everyone can enjoy the cultural appeal of the enchanting village! There are a few lovely beaches nearby, including Portisco Beach, which features a rocky coastline with clear, turquoise waters great for snorkeling. Spiaggia di Rena Bianca is a good spot if you want to do watersports during your sailboat charter, as here you can windsurf as well as snorkel! Finally, Petra Ruja Beach is a 500m stretch of pink/red sands surrounded by wild greenery, and its translucent waters make it an ideal destination for scuba diving.

Cagliari

Cagliari is the hub of the southern coast of Sardinia. Hugely popular with tourists and boatsmen alike, it’s easy to see why it’s such a desirable destination for a sailboat charter. The historic capital gives a real character to the city, with various ancient ruins including the roman ampitheatre, and remains of the Torre dell’Elefante, built in 1307, of which one of the Pisan towers still stands. The city’s centerpiece so-to-speak, is the hilltop citadel: Il Castello, and also the church, Santuario & Basilica di Nostra Signora di Bonaria is another spot worth visiting, as well as being a popular pilgrimage site. If you’re passing through during your sailboat charter, a good stop off is Poetto Beach, where watersports and canoeing opportunities are in abundance.

Climate

Navigating Sardinia during summer (May-October) is truly a dream. With glorious days of sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s, it’s an idyllic spot for a sailboat charter. Winds tend to be moderate during this season, however the area can be subject to the stronger mistral winds so it’s good to be vigilant checking daily forecasts so as not to get caught in unpleasant weather.
