Angelokastro Castle

Angelokastro Castle is a historic marvel that is worth a day trip to see during your sailboat charter in Corfu. The castle is strategically located along the northwest coast on the highest peak of the island. The position of the fortress allowed its residents to successfully defend themselves from pirate attacks as they could see the invaders approaching from a distance. Inside, located in a cave, you can still see the ruins of a church which was dedicated to angels. Some historians argue that this fortress dates back to the 13th century. ACHILLEION

Wander 10km south of the city center and you will find yourself exploring a palace. This structure was ordered to be built by empress Sisi of Austra in 1890, a year after the tragic death of her only son. She named the palace after her favorite hero Achilles. During both World Wars, the palace was used as a hospital and as a military headquarter. Today the palace is a museum that draws thousands of tourists each year. Paleokastritsa Monastery

Constructed on a rock in 1228, this monastery is a typical example of Greek monastic architecture. Admire the beauty of this structure and icons scattered throughout the property.
