Don't miss it in Calvi

Upper Corsica

Upper Corsica or ‘Haute-Corse’ is the north-eastern part of Corsica, separated from the south by the central mountain range known as ‘Les Monts’. Upper Corsica is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. The Gulf of Porto, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also part of the Corsican National Park. It is a majestic place that you will be able to discover during your cruise. The exposure of the anchorages will not allow you to spend the night there however. You will be more sheltered in the Gulf of Girolata a little further north. After the North Point, explore the Scandola nature reserve and let yourself be surprised by the magic of this wonderful and wild site. A catamaran charter in Calvi is the perfect way to explore this region steeped in history and culture. After all, Calvi’s coast is regarded as a sailing paradise. During heavy swells however, we advise you to take shelter in the picturesque port of Saint-Florent. Few ports are easily accessible around ‘Cap Corse’ and it is advised not to sail too close to the reef. However, you will be able to take shelter in the fishing port of Centuri or the port of Macinaggio.

Spring and early autumn are the ideal seasons for catamaran charters in North Corsica as the temperatures are pleasant and the ports and anchorages are less crowded. The prevailing wind in summer is north-westerly that rises in the late morning and falls in the evening.

What you need to know about sailing in Corsica

June, July, August and September are the best months of the year to charter in Corsica: it’s hot but the sea winds cool the air. Navigation wise, Corsican seas are ‘a breeze’ but do beware of the somewhat rough waters around the ‘Cap Corse’ in the North and the ‘Bouches de Bonifacio’ in the South. Sailing in October or in low season will of course guarantee a very enjoyable and tranquil trip. Along the Mediterranean coast, many ports and anchorages are at your disposal for stopovers, refuelling and tourism activities (Port of Ajaccio, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio...). Visit Corsica and discover superb spots such as the Cala Francese beach, the Canuseddu creeks, the Jumelles de Galets and the Dragon's Cave!
