Frequently asked questions

  • What happens if I need to cancel my cruise?

If you wish to make a cancellation, you should contact your GlobeSailor advisor as soon as possible. Whatever the circumstances, you will be charged the following cancellation fees, depending on when the cancellation is made: up to 90 days before departure = 25%; 89 to 60 days before departure = 50%; 59 to 30 days before departure = 75%; 29 days or less before departure = 100% of the total cost of your booking. We recommend that you sign up for cancellation insurance with your personal insurance provider.
  • How can I arrange my transfer from the airport to the boat? What about provisioning?

After you have made your booking the base manager will contact you to give you more information on your cruise. Make sure you confirm what time you will be arriving and also your flight details. A taxi or minibus can meet you at the airport and bring you directly to the boat at an extra cost.
Provisioning and meals will be taken care of by your crew. If you have any allergies or dietary requirements (vegan, vegetarian etc…) make sure to let the base manager know.
  • What payments must I make in order to confirm my booking?

To confirm your booking you should inform your GlobeSailor advisor who will put an option (hold) on the cabin for a certain time until we receive your down payment.

The booking will only be considered final once we have received your down payment (by bank transfer, Paypal or credit card) which is 50% of the total amount. A 100% down payment is required for any booking made less than one month before departure.

The balance should be paid no later than one month before boarding to GlobeSailor. Mandatory extras and options will be payable locally. Be sure to check with your advisor or the base prior to departure.
  • What currency is used in the Grenadines?

The currency in the Grenadines is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$ or XCD)
    In July 2016, 1 € = 2,97 EC$ et 1 EC$ = 0,33 €. However the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Eastern Caribbean dollar is fixed: 1 US$ = 2,70 $EC.
The Eastern Caribbean Dollar is used in 7 other English speaking Caribbean islands: Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint-Kitts and St. Lucia.
Leave home with US dollars or take cash out from an ATM when you are there. You can find some on most of the islands (except Mayreau), but be warned, they are sometimes out of order!
  • What vaccinations are recommended before travel to the Grenadines?

For a trip in the Grenadines, there are no obligatory vaccinations however we recommend that you make yourself aware of the following:

    Zika Virus

Due to the risk of the Zika virus transmitted by the Asian tiger mosquito, is it advised that pregnant women or those planning to have a baby should postpone their trip, or if they choose to travel, to take sufficient measures to protect themselves against mosquito bites. The symptoms are: a fever, headache, joint pain and skin rash.
    Dengue Fever

The main health concern is the reemergence of cases of Dengue fever in the Caribbean region. This virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and the symptoms are similar to those of a bad flu (high temperature, above 40 °C) and also nausea, vomiting, dehydration, sometimes skin rashes. There is a haemorrhagic form which can be deadly, but it is rare.
    Chikungunya

This viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes first appeared in the Antilles region in 2014. The symptoms are like that of a bad flu with more severe joint pain which can be serious. Just as for Dengue and Zika there is no vaccination or treatment. You should take effective measures to protect yourself against mosquitoes, however severe cases remain extremely rare. If you experience persistent symptoms like those mentioned above, then you should contact a doctor.
    Protect yourself against mosquito bites

Cover up with long clothing, especially in the forest, where you should wear cover your arms and legs completely, in particular at night and in the morning. Don’t wear perfume, and instead use a repellant spray containing DEET. At night use a mosquito net which is one of the most important methods of protection.
  • What documents are needed to travel to the Grenadines?

British and US passport holders don’t need a visa to visit St Vincent and the Grenadines, but you must have a passport valid for at least 6 months. On entry, you will be granted a specified period to stay. If you wish to stay longer, you must apply and pay for an extension of your stay through the St Vincent Immigration Department.
For other nationalities you should consult the advice issued by your government's foreign office.
